Introduction

Hi, Everyone! next

Today, I'm going to share an animation with you, which has a huge story discussing deep philosophical problems about humans and society, named Psycho-Pass. auto next

Well, Psycho-Pass is a thriller cyberpunk anime that was aired on Fuji TV between October 2012 and March 2013. And just last year, in March 2023, they released a new film called Psycho-Pass Providence.

As this is a presentation aiming to give a sale of this work, I'd only give you a tantalizing glimpse of it.

Setting

Well, imagine you are currently living in a world where you don't need to worry about your survival, job, and safety. No one can harm you cause every crime can be detected before it is committed. And you can know the job to which you are best suited by doing an evaluation.

If everyone lives like this, will it be a thriving, safe, and stable society that we've been dreaming of?

That's the future where all the stories take place in.

People invented an AI system, which can scan one's state of mind and present it using a series of metrics called Psycho-Pass.

That's the name, Psycho stands for mind and mental, and Pass stands for scores and assessment.

Psycho-Pass includes next a numeric Crime Coefficient, revealing the target's criminality potential, and next a color-coded Hue (As the picture shows, Forest Green indicates a sign of sociopath).

With Psycho-Pass, we can get to know if someone has an intention to commit a crime, kill or hijack, or something else, in a second and a hundred percent certainty.

MWPSB CID

Usually, where there is a crime, there is police.

Without exception, in the story, click the Public Safety Bureau will get involved in dealing with crimes.

As a service branch of click the Ministry of Welfare, PSB has a department called click the Criminal Investigation Department —— CID, tasked with managing crime.

CID is then divided into three divisions, with Division 01 as the center of all the stories.

next Every division will have two inspectors, four enforcers, and one analyst.

Main Characters

In the Division 01, they are next ...

Tsunemori Akane

The inspector, Tsunemori Akane, is the main protagonist and the point-of-view character of the series. As an inspector, she's in charge of handling cases and being responsible for enforcers' behaviors.

She appears to be shy and naive at the time of her recruitment, as well as quite idealistic.
But as time goes on, Tsunemori reveals herself to be intelligent, insightful, patient, and compassionate as an Inspector.

Kougami Shinya

Kougami Shinya, click one of the enforcers in Division 01.

He is a skilled detective with cool-headed.
Despite his serious personality, Kogami has a sense of humor and finds it amusing to tease Tsunemori Akane.

Makishima Shogo

The enemy of both —— Makishima Shogo.

Well, I can't tell you any information about him since he's the key of Season 1.

But next here I have a hint for you ... to give some of you an undeniable reason to watch this season.

Police Tech

The Sibyl System

The Sibyl System. It is the name of the AI System that can assess one's Psycho-Pass.
If you read ancient Greek mythology, you might know Cumaean Sibyl, a prophet with oracular powers. click

Based on its ability to read one's state of mind, click it has been applied to domains like public safety, job assignments, etc...

Decreasing crime to a lower level than had ever been recorded. Determining everyone's job, telling people what they're supposed to do, and how best they can contribute to society and live their lives optimally by judging people's Psycho-Pass and their aptitude.

With the Sibyl System, an unprecedented thriving and stable society has arrived.

The Dominator

But even with the Sybil system in place, there the crime exist still.
That's where the dominator comes into play, as the iconic firearm equipped for CID officers.

Based on different levels of the Criminal Coefficient, the dominator has three enforcement modes. next

100 is the threshold click of being recognized as the latent criminal, you will be paralyzed once shot.

Once the number continues to grow and exceeds 300 click, you will be judged/sentenced by the Sibyl System that you have no more utility to society and should be eliminated right away.
click That's the mode two, lethal eliminator.

As for non-organic click threats, since their criminal coefficient is not measurable, such as large vehicles or drones, mode three, Destroy Decomposer will be activated, which will annihilate the target.

You might be surprised, 'Wow, how can they not sentence the criminal and kill others immediately?'

That's the society Sibyl System built —— Sibyl is the law, and Sibyl has sentenced it based on the Criminal Coefficient.

Sentencing on the spot, and enforcing on the spot, are unique to the Sibyl System.
What police basically need to do is aim at the criminal and pull the trigger, and then the victim will be safe.

Crazy, it's impossible to commit a crime in such a society! You will be found out on the instant and enforced immediately, no court, no lawyer.

Thus we call the Dominator the eye of the Sibyl System. next

Philosophy

Now, I'd ask, whether you like to live in a world like this?
You can have your job and actualize yourself just by following the oracle that the Sibyl System instructed.
So, in theory, it's the ideal society we have been dreaming of.

—— Really?

Monitor everyone, and let the government determine everyone's life, so will we achieve the greatest happiness for the greatest majority of people? Even if the government is not men but AI?

Besides, as the product of humans. Will AI judge humans without any impact from human values so as to deliver the absolute justice?

You will find the answer in the story.
